Music @ Milne’s has a rich traditional music legacy in Fochabers that supports learners to build confidence, creativity and resilience. Our range of music groups enjoy the challenge of preparing traditional and modern Scottish, popular and other epic music to a high standard. We have been able to secure different community performance opportunities including the acclaimed annual SpeyFest festival and at UHI graduations. We continue to work with industry experts to cultivate the links between learners and established artists that continues long after pupils leave MHS.
Extra-curricular is a great part of the department. Joining these groups helps build lifelong friendships, develop instrumental skills by learning from your peers and take part in opportunities to go on some great trips all across Scotland.
This is our S1-S3 learning journey, we start by exploring all the instruments we have on offer and focus on developing instrumental skills as we believe that learning a musical instrument can help develop musical, cognitive and transferable skills.
In the senior phase we offer Music and Music technology.
Music TechnologyIf you want to know the different types of microphones and what they should be used for and how to create, record and edit sound effects then Music Tech is the course for you.
The course Music can help you discover how music has evolved and how it is so closely linked to what is happening in the world at that time. N5 to AH exams include;
- Playing two instruments or one instrument and voice
- The SQA exam paper focuses on musical literacy and your understanding of the concepts used to create music
- A self-created composition
