Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies (RMPS)

Principal Teacher – Mr. Archibald

The Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies department at Milne’s High School offers courses from S1 all the way through S6. Pupils receive one lesson a week of core RME (Religious and Moral Education) from S1-S3. They have the opportunity to select Religion and Philosophy as a course choice in S3 and from S4-S6 there are two courses on offer in the department: Philosophy and RMPS (Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies). Philosophy can be pursued at National 5 or Higher Level and RMPS can be sat at National 4, National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher levels at Milne’s High School.

Lessons focus on developing critical thinking and communication skills. Pupils have the opportunity to share their views and ask deep questions of themselves, their classmates and the world around them. RMPS is a place where the school values of resilience, respect and responsibility are emphasised as we consider questions such as ‘what does it mean to live a good life’ and ‘what, if any, limits should there be on forgiveness’?
